How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Pallet of Liquidation Inventory?

The freight charges that decide whether a pallet is profitable: dock versus residential delivery, liftgate, pallet count, transit time and the free-freight threshold.

Key takeaways

  • · Always price the lot delivered, not at its sticker price.
  • · Dock delivery is cheapest; residential delivery includes a liftgate and costs more.
  • · Freight per pallet falls as pallet count rises, and over four pallets ships free.
  • · Lincoln, Nebraska origin keeps lower-48 transit short.
  • · Note damage on the delivery receipt and photograph before unwrapping.

Freight is the line most new buyers get wrong

Pallet freight is not parcel shipping. It moves as LTL — less-than-truckload — on a shared trailer, and the price is built from the lane, the weight and class of the goods, and the services the delivery address requires. Two identical pallets going to two different addresses can carry very different freight.

Get the delivered number before you buy. A lot is only cheap if it is still cheap once it is standing on your floor.

The three charges that actually move your total

Delivery type. Commercial dock delivery is the cheapest option because the carrier reverses to a dock and the pallet rolls straight off. Residential home delivery costs more because it includes liftgate service to lower the pallet to ground level, and residential lanes are slower for carriers to run.

Pallet count. Freight does not scale one-for-one. Adding a second pallet costs far less than doubling the bill, which is why taking more pallets nearly always lowers your cost per unit. Orders of more than four pallets ship free.

Distance and lane. Our pallets leave Lincoln, Nebraska. Central origin keeps transit shorter and freight lower to most of the country than a coast-based warehouse would.

Choosing the right delivery type for your setup

If you have a loading dock or a forklift, choose commercial dock delivery and keep the money. If you are receiving at a home, a storage unit or a small unit with no dock, choose residential home delivery — the liftgate is included and the driver lowers the pallet to the ground for you.

Do not book dock delivery to an address without a dock hoping to save. The carrier will attempt delivery, fail, and the redelivery and accessorial charges will cost far more than the liftgate would have.

Have a pallet jack or several people ready. A carrier's responsibility ends when the pallet is on the ground at the kerb or dock, not when it is inside your building.

Skipping freight entirely

Buyers within driving distance can collect from our Lincoln, Nebraska facility and pay no freight. Pickup is by approved appointment only: request a slot at least 24 to 48 hours in advance, wait for written confirmation, and arrive with your order number and a vehicle or trailer that suits the pallet count. Walk-ins cannot be accommodated.

Receiving the pallet without losing your claim

Inspect before you sign. Walk the pallet, look for crushed corners, torn wrap, water staining and a leaning stack. Note any visible damage on the delivery receipt before signing — a clean signature on damaged freight makes a claim much harder.

Photograph the pallet from several angles before you cut the wrap, and again as you unload. Where freight damage, concealed damage or a shortage occurs, photo claims filed within five business days of delivery are reviewed under our damage protection terms and refunded or credited for the affected portion where the terms are met.

Frequently asked questions

+Do I need a liftgate?

You need one if there is no dock or forklift at the delivery address. Residential home delivery already includes liftgate service.

+Is shipping ever free?

Yes. Orders of more than four pallets ship free, and facility pickup by appointment carries no freight charge.

+How do I get an exact freight figure?

Use the instant freight estimator on any lot page: choose your destination state and delivery type, and the estimate is shown before you add the lot to your cart.

+What if nobody is there when the carrier arrives?

LTL carriers schedule a delivery appointment for residential and most commercial addresses. A missed appointment usually means a redelivery charge, so keep your phone available once the shipment is in transit.

+Can I combine several lots into one shipment?

Lots leaving the same warehouse are consolidated where possible, which is how buyers reach the free-freight threshold while spreading risk across categories.
