How Liquidation Pallets Work
From retailer decision to reseller dock — the lifecycle of a pallet of liquidation inventory.
The retailer's decision
Every retailer reaches a point where holding an item costs more than clearing it. Returns processing, warehouse space, and shrinking seasonal relevance all push goods toward liquidation.
Aggregation and palletization
Goods are consolidated, sometimes sorted by department or condition, and stacked onto standard 48x40 pallets. Where item-level scanning happens, a manifest is produced. Where it does not, the lot goes out unmanifested at a lower price.
Listing and sale
The lot is listed with its condition grade, quantities, and origin. Buyers purchase at a fixed price, bid at auction, or request a quote for larger volumes. Freight is arranged from the origin warehouse to the buyer's location.
The reseller's work
Value is created after delivery: unloading, sorting, testing, cleaning, photographing, listing, and shipping. That labor is the real business, and it is why the same pallet can be profitable for one buyer and a loss for another.
