How to Start a Liquidation Reselling Business
The practical sequence: channel, capital, space, first lot, and the systems that make the second lot easier.
Pick one channel first
Online marketplace, bin store, flea market, discount retail, or wholesale flipping — each requires different inventory, different space, and different labor. Trying two at once usually means doing both badly.
Handle the business basics
Register your business, understand your state's sales tax and resale certificate requirements, and open a separate bank account. Consult your own accountant or attorney; requirements vary by state and nothing here is legal or tax advice.
Budget for more than the pallet
Your first purchase needs room for freight, shipping supplies, storage, and the near-certainty that the first lot teaches you something expensive. Buy one small manifested pallet before you buy a truckload.
Build the system on lot one
Track receiving, sorting, listing, and sell-through from the very first lot. The numbers from lot one are what let you price lot two correctly, and they are the only data that genuinely reflects your operation.
